For a month, I set out each day from 1, avenue du Général-Leclerc and follow the same route through Ivry-sur-Seine, with one simple rule: not to return without a photograph. The route never changes. The encounters are what shift it. I walk, look, slow down. Sometimes I pass someone, hesitate, then turn back to speak to them. Only a few metres, but a distance I have to decide to cross each time. I ask to take their photograph. The answer may be yes or no. I am not looking for any particular face. I let the route and chance determine who I encounter.
The constraint simply forces me to remain open, but also, at times, to make something happen that otherwise would not have: to stop, go back to someone, exchange a few words, and create the brief moment needed for an image. By walking the same loop again and again, I gradually come to know its rhythm. I know where I slow down, where my attention lingers, and where an encounter might occur. The route remains the same, but repetition gradually sharpens the way I look and approach others. Each day therefore begins from the same point, with the same constraint, without ever producing exactly the same experience.
